11/11-11/15

Goals for the Week

  • Prepare a model for photosynthesis
  • Discuss the needs and outputs of a plant
  • Organize an investigation and analyze data

SEPs
Asking questions and defining problems
Developing and using models
Planning and carrying out investigations
Analyzing and interpreting data
Constructing explanations and designing solutions
Engaging in argument from evidence

Obtaining, evaluating and communicating information

Monday and Tuesday
Data collection Elephant Dung Lab

  • Refer to our original claim- Seeds  digested by elephants show a greater percentage of germinated seeds than those that are not digested
  • Document data in a data table in your lab notebook and on this spreadsheet
  • As a group discuss your data and provide evidence and reasoning to support your claim.  Be prepared to share your results in a class discussion
What do seeds need to live and how does that compare to what we know grown plants need to live? What do our observations show us?  How can we test this?

Wednesday through  Friday
Draft of the review for our assessment(s) next Tuesday
Collect second round of seed data - be sure to document in lab notebook
How can we use the data today to explore the needs of plants?

Individual CER assessment Monday
  • Using evidence and reasoning obtained in lab this week, support the claim that plants use water and carbon dioxide to produce glucose and oxygen (photosynthesis equation)
We will continue assessing next week!  You will be able to use your lab notebook for all assessments.
